Reviews
Miami Herald
newspaper (September 28, 1990): "Demonstrates much historical and
biblical research, contains excellent notes and indices."
The Bloomsbury
Review (June, 1991): "The idea has merit, and this book may
contribute to the peace process."
Watching
and Waiting magazine (Chelmsford, England, January/February,
1991): "The book is an important one.. A timely antidote to misguided
'Christian Zionism" ... Faithful to the Scriptures, well presented,
researched and referenced and deserves a wide circulation."
Criswell
Theological Review (Spring, 1991; reviewer Paige Patterson,
President of Criswell College at that time and later a President
of the Southern Baptist Convention and now President of Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Forth Worth, Texas, whose adopted brother is a Palestinian,
a U.S. citizen, successful businessman, and very close friend of
Palestinian Authority Chairman, Yasser Arafat): "A fascinating book
of history, eschatology and biblical studies.. worthy of serious
contemplation ... makes several important contributions ... very accurate
history of the conflict. Zarley's proposal for a Palestinian state
is, in fact, just about the only workable solution imaginable."
Bibliotheca
Sacra (Spring, 1991; reviewer John Walvoord, former long-time
President of Dallas Theological Seminary and by that time its Chancellor):
I knew Dr. Walvoord. He considerably misrepresents this book in his review and
does not seem to understand the book very well. Walvoord is a Christian
Zionist. For several years, as a layperson I was associated
with Dallas Theological Seminary and some of its faculty.
Advent Christian
Witness magazine (June, 1991; reviewer David A. Dean, former
Professor of Theology at Berkshire Christian College): This review
article represents a comparison of three books: Palestine Is
Coming and the two most popular prophecy books in the U.S. at
that time, which were John Walvoord's revised Armageddon, Oil
and the Middle East Crisis and Charles Dyer's The Rise of
Babylon. Dyer was and remains a Professor at Dallas Theological
Seminary. Reviewer Dean rates Walvoord's book as "easily the poorest,"
Dyer's as second best, and mine as "more formidable"
and "by far the best." He describes my book as "a carefully researched,
well-documented and thoughtful examination of the Palestinian problem.
Although also written for popular consideration, Palestine Is
Coming displays more scholarship and is more informative than
the other two books." Dean
concludes, "If you're going to try one of these books, this is definitely
the one."
